I Paint and I Talk

It's no secret that I paint. You're obviously reading this from my website where you can see several of my paintings, so it's rather obvious that I enjoy art. It takes me to a different place mentally. Art allows me to escape for a few minutes a day, or several hours, or even several days.

What you might now know about me is that I also talk. A lot. I paint...and I talk. I'm also a professional voice actor. I've voiced commercials, video narrations, eLearning courses, online slot machine characters (Hotel Yeti-Way), and a whole series of short horror stories. Like putting paint on canvas, voice over or voice acting also takes me to a different place, mentally. Becoming a story teller or a narrator is interesting and fun. You learn something from every script you read. Every eLearning course you narrate has tidbits of knowledge that you may not have had prior. I once narrated a big project for the online training of HVAC technicians. I now know why I paint and do voice over instead of HVAC. Those people really have to know their stuff! Sometimes in the booth, I get to be someone completely different like an Orc or Evil Wizard in a video game (I love making up voices for characters).

Anyway, I guess I'm writing this to do some shameless self-promotion. If you'd like to know more about Rich Summers "The Voice Over Guy", I would love to invite you to check out my voice over website. You'll can listen to demos of my work, view my growing client list, see some video demos, and hear from happy clients!

In the event you ever need voice over work done, and I fit the sound you're looking for feel free to contact me, and we can discuss your needs and your project! Thanks for checking out this post!

Venturing Into The You Tube World

Well, my wife and I have ventured into the world of YouTube. What a learning curve all of this social media is for an "old fart" like me. It's not a world I am totally familiar with, but I realize how important and impactful it can be when it comes to getting exposure for my art.

Amber and I have been watching tutorial after tutorial on how to be successful on YouTube. For artists, there are what seems like a BEJILLION videos of how two paint this, or how to paint that. Tutorials, time lapses, tips, what brushes to use...and the list goes on and on. It's very overwhelming to someone like me. I asked myself several times "how do I make a channel that's different, and stands out in all that traffic and information?"

Going to "YouTube University" (which is what Amber and I are calling our tutorial marathon) has made us realize that:

1)We don't have to be that different, we just have to be.

2) We don't have to be great at anything to start, we DO have to start to try to become great, however.

3)While it would be amazing to have some huge number of subscribers and followers, our goal is to use our YouTube channel to help inspire others to pick up a brush and give painting a try.

As of this posting, we've been on YouTube for a total of 4 days. At this writing, we have 20 subscribers. That's how it starts. ONE subscriber at a time. 5 subscribers a day...turns into 150 in a month, and 1,800 in a  year, and...well, you can do the math.

It's a new creative outlet for us both. I paint. Amber does the video work. Are we great at either? Nope...but we'll get better with each painting and each video. Remember, you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

So pick up some brushes if you haven't, and start...to be great!

Happy Painting!

OH...here's one of our videos. And yes...PLEASE subscribe and ring that bell for notifications when we post new work.
Happy New Year!  ~Rich

Start Painting Today

Painting gives me a personal sense of satisfaction. It also decompresses me and reduces stress. I remember reading once that "The Joy Of Painting with Bob Ross" was one of the top five MOST relaxing shows to watch on television. It didn't matter whether or not you thought Bob was, or wasn't a great artist.

What Bob did, was inspire thousands...probably millions of people, who may have never tried without his encouragment, to pick up a brush and try painting. I did it when I was in between jobs, and found that it sparked my creative side, and took me away from wondering where the next paycheck was going to come from, if only for a few hours.

If you've been thinking about painting, or at least giving it a try, I would ask you "what's holding you back?" Paint for yourself. Don't worry about what others may or may not think at first. Just give it a try. I think you'll be surprised at how fun it can be, even if you've never done it before.

Don't be concerned with making your painting look perfect. Remember...NOTHING is perfect. Bob Ross always said..."it's YOUR world, and you can make it look anyway you want".

Now, my shameless plug...if you need supplies to get going...here are a few starter sets to consider. In an attempt to be transparent, I won't lie, if you click through and make a purchase, yes, I make a few pennies on the dollar. I have to pay for art supplies too.

Now go create!  ~Rich
